Mike Sambalikagwa Mvona, President of the Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) is set to defend the hot post for the fifth time, later this year.
Mawu, is going to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) where elections are also on the agenda, and in a surprising turn of events, Mvona, 58, is set to contest.
Mvona was first elected Mawu President in 1999, and stepped down in 2004 to contest for a parliamentary seat, where he lost.
He successfully reclaimed the post in 2007 from Stanley Kenani, and contested in 2010 and 2013 Mawu elections and reports indicate he is also contesting in 2016.
Meanwhile, a writer and journalist Kondwani Kamiyala has already registered his diaproval on Mvona’s intention in a Facebook post on Thursday, describing him as a ‘shameless man’.
Sambalikagwa Mvona is a published author of more than 90 short stories and 150 poems. Editor and creative author of eight books and was once nominated for the 2004 IMPACT Dublin International.
Mawu was formed in 1995 and Poet Edison Mpina was its first President and died in office in 1996. He was succeeded by Steve Shara, who resigned in 1998 to pursue further studies.
