As a way of relaxing and releasing loneliness and home sick, Dzaleka refugee camp has lined different activities to take place on 5 November this year . The Event which is known as tumaini festival sees refugees and none refugees come together and showcase different activities.
Tumaini festival started in 2014 and this year makes it it’s third time happening at dzaleka refugee camp.among many other which includes musicians, poets and dancers came together for the Tumaini arts festival every years both local Malawians and those at the refugee camp.according to founder Menes le plume said The festival’s purpose is to change the way refugees are seen across the world.

La Plume, a refugee from Congo, explains the festival’s distinct aim: to empower its residents as people in their own right, giving them a status beyond just being a refugee. “No one sets out permanently to leave the place they were born,” La Plume says. “And to then go to a foreign country where they will know no one. Who chooses to be looked at as a lesser human being?” explains.
The Tumaini arts festival’s Congolese founder, Menes La Plume, is clear in his ambitions: he wants to change the way refugees are perceived across the world, and he’s doing so by showcasing their creative talent.
