His Excellency, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi will on Friday, December 16, grace the 2016 Malawi Broadcasting Corporation – MBC Innovations Awards ceremony.
According to a press statement signed by State House Press Secretary Mgeme Kalilani, the ceremony will take place at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe and shall start at 18:00 hours.
And in an interview, MBC director general Aubrey Sumbuleta said the President was delighted after a successful inaugural event held at the College of Medicine in Blantyre last December.
“As a broadcaster, we are honoured to have the First Couple extend this invitation to us and the Malawian public at large,” said Sumbuleta.
He disclosed that just like last year, the second edition is set to be full of surprises with lots of entertainment and unique prizes awaiting the 10 winners.
“This second edition will be building on the successes of last year’s event and there is a lot waiting in store,” he said.

The director general said from last year’s event there was tremendous positive feedback owing to the impact the awards made to the first 10 winners and their surrounding communities.
“Others who have never travelled in their life on the plane have done so and others have clinched business deals which they would never have done without the exposure that came through their MBC Innovations Awards victory,” he explained.
The 10 winners are selected
in the fields of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Education, Sports, Persons Living with Disability, Arts and Culture, Large and Small Entrepreneurship, Environment and Health.
Apart from being splashed with cash prizes of K500 000 each, the winners were also awarded classy trophies, certificates and international training tours to the People’s Republic of China and Egypt.
