One of the country’s thriving artists, Chimwemwe Mwenyemasi, who is strong at designing shoes, has gained fresh spotlight with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) designs.
Mwenyemasi, who recently interacted with President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the First Lady Getrude Mutharika at a youth innovation hub in Lilongwe, has designed stylish shoes, earrings and handbags bearing DPP colour and symbols.
The first time Mwenyemasi was catapulted into the limelight was when he designed a billionaire boot made from a billionaire wrapper.
Meanwhile, the DPP earrings, shoes and handbags have become a talk of the town especially on the social media.
The artist told Malawi Voice that he wanted orders from the DPP supporters.
“I know that the only way I can survive as an artist is to come up with something unique that people can support me. Hence the designs with the DPP products. I didn’t want to go about knocking on the doors of the party’s officials or supporters for help but to create something that will compel them to support me,” said Mwenyemasi.
