Entertainment is perceived to be expensive and it is indeed expensive, but for the past weeks PSI Malawi, has been on a national tour in a bid to promote the consistent use of condoms amongst sexually active young people.
Recently, people in Mangochi and Salima were treated with a free live music show with Lucius Banda and Zembani Band performing live.
Speaking in all the venues, PSI’s Communications Coordinator, Kelvin Shema, said that they were conducting these shows to interact with young people and remind them on the importance of being of good health in order to achieve their goals.
“We decided to conduct this tour as one way of interacting with young people who are sexually active to keep on reminding them that good health is crucial in achieving goals” he said
Shema further said that these shows had been organized to reinforce the use of Chishango amongst sexually active young people, bringing health-entertainment to young people as well as engaging with PSI’s target audience.
One of the spectators in Mangochi Jailos, said the coming of PSI was timely intervention, considering that the district remains to have high HIV prevalence rate and the district’s population continues to skyrocketing.
Malawi’s population is largely young people and it has been highlighted that initiatives targeting young people are core to winning the battle against HIV/AIDS. Recently there have been similar activities targeting young people but so far, PSI’s Music Bash Shows have managed to bring together thousands of young people in a bid to sensitize them on the use of Condoms.
According to Shema, Similar shows are yet to take place in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Kasungu where the Black Missionaries will be performing.
