Newly established a cappella music group, Lilongwe Community Choir (LCC), has pledged to improve the standards of choral music in Malawi to match international standards.
The group says this will be achieved through equipping passionate people with skills and creative approach to music.
LCC director Chisomo Dan Kauma said their group is an inclusive singing gospel choir established to bring together people from all walks of life to music.
“Music hears no language and sees no boundary, therefore we strongly believe that our music can help in uniting people and promoting culture,” he said.
According to Kauma, apart from singing, people will have an opportunity to learn the basics of choral music in order to maintain higher standards.
“We want to give to our audience best performances they have never and ever watched before,” he added.
The choir will also help in exposing Malawian hidden talent as it is planning to be taking part in different international concerts, festivals and competitions.
In terms of membership Kauma said the group is open to anyone who has passion for choral music.
“There is no need for auditions as one purpose of the group is to teach people how to read music and sing, this is why no experience is required to join,” he explained.
As shared by Kauma, being a community grouping, LCC has no tribe, religion or race restrictions, thus its members are a representative cross section of diverse districts.
He further explained that promoting, improving and maintaining public education in appreciation of the art and science of choral music in all aspects by presentation of public concerts and recitals was one of their main objectives.
LCC started in 2015 as the first ever community choir in the country.
