Loan sharks, popularly known as Katapila people have pounced on Malawi’s gospel superstar Patience Namadingo. The loan sharks accompanied by the police stormed Namadingo’s house in Blantyre Thursday last week when they heard that he is going to the US.
The Katapila guys who usually operate illegally in Malawi are said to have borrowed Namadingo millions of kwacha for his career rebranding but he was reported failing to pay it back.
“We heard that Namadingo wants to go to American and run away with our money so we decided to go to his house with fiscal police to confiscate some of the materials. But unfortunately he found it rocked,” said the Katapila man who preys his trade in Blantyre market.
Patience Namadingo has left Malawi for United States of America on Monday with Tonderai Banda, his manager. There are reports that he will not come back again to Malawi fearing the debt he has with the Blantyre-based loan shacks.
His phone number went unanswered when Namadingo was called to hear his said of the story. While his manager Tonderai Banda cut the line when the subject was introduced to him
